Carnall’s Kids

Carnall’s Kids - a TAHU Honorees Corporation charity

Donna Carnall, a past president of FWAHU, TAHU & NAHU, has long been involved in helping the children of Mexico. More specifically, she has been performing charitable work in the city of AJIJIC, in the State of JALISCO, Mexico. Good education, adequate clothing and basic foods have been her theme because so many of the children in Mexico have so little of what we take for granted.

Donna has targeted the poorest of the poor, the children from shanties, many of whom work on the streets before they are even 10 years old. The children chosen show enthusiasm for school in their attitude and high school marks. This is literally a “School or the Street” crossroads for these kids. In some cases, the parents would rather have their kids working the street to help with the family income, but if the education opportunity exists and Donna convinces them of the honor bestowed on their children, many will allow their children to continue in school.

This is a life-changing opportunity for these kids. Without Donna’s help they will be destined for a life of poverty, ignorance, and even depravity and crime. For about a quarter a day, just 27 cents, you provide an entire year of education, school meals and school uniforms for an elementary student who needs $100 a year – what a bargain.  A high school-aged student needs $400 per year to attend secondary school.  Mexico’s Public Education System is not funded with tax dollars so school is not free and universal.  Just imagine what a difference our contributions make in the lives of these children.
